The JUNK AND INGENUITY series is designed for both the experienced and the not-so-experienced and very much for the creative person in search of innovative craft projects for themselves, as well as their home and garden. The books will inspire readers to discover a new side to their creativity, challenge them to look at simple everyday items in a new light and to pick up their DIY tools, as well as their pins, scissors and glue sticks to create unique and personalised products.
The Vintage Home starts with a few simple furniture projects to transform a living space quickly and easily using cheap car boot finds, or pieces of furniture lurking in dark and dusty corners of family homes. The authors show that with a few crafty and creative tips these pieces can be transformed into stunning, and useful items to be admired and treasure. Given the rise in renting, the growing interest in ‘make do and mend’ and the increasing rise in interest in craft techniques along with a burgeoning interest in all things ‘vintage’ this is a book which will appeal across a wide age range and readership. The book is fully illustrated throughout with step-by-step photography
About the authors:
Juliette Goggin
Juliette’s career has combined a childhood love of making things out of odds and ends, with a flair for designing innovative and stylish gifts and toiletries. Her early career in the fragrance industry gave her a grounding in design and manufacture and she established her own company, JGMD, in the late 1980s. Juliette rapidly developed a high profile and diverse clientele, designing products for many well known names such as Julien Macdonald the British celebrity fashion designer, textile and homewares creator Cath Kidston, as well as Molton Brown, French Connection and many other famous high street brands. Juliette went on to create the “Juliette at Home” gift range, reflecting her love of all things recycled and vintage which has gained her a following amongst independent shops and department stores who love her quirky and unique style. She continues to design and create home and gift products for established and new UK companies. In Spring 2011 she took part in Channel 4's Super Scrimpers show where she showed how to make upcycled jewellery, gift and gardening projects on a minimal budget. However she is happiest when scouring car boot sales and the dark corners of junk shops for other people's cast offs to turn them into unique gifts and creative home and fashion accessories, and even happier when people remark on her magpie creations.
Stacy Sirk
Stacy has been creating unique items from everyday objects since she could first hold a pair of scissors. The only Girl Scout badge she ever earned was “Sewing and Craft”. With 25 years’ international experience in buying, product development, and visual merchandising, her particular expertise is sourcing unusual and vintage products and display items which shape a retail brand’s unique character, using an exceptional global network of industry connections and resources. Originally from San Francisco, Stacy has worked for a wide range of store groups on retail concept, buying, visual merchandising, and product development, including Urban Outfitters, Nike, Restoration Hardware, Smith & Hawken, and Macy’s. She loves recycling vintage items and unearthing unloved treasures, rummaging around off-the-beaten-track markets and outlets, and discovering obscure collectors and their obsessions.
